A Sunday Post

Its been a few weeks since I last blogged, well wrote here at least.

What have I been doing one may wonder (and that maybe only one person who wonders) and I do wonder that myself. A couple of Saturday's ago I spent the day at the clubs first outdoor archery competition of the year. It was amazing fun watching 30 archers standing on the line loosing off arrows. My first time at this competition which is an American shooting 30 arrows at 60, 50 and 40 yards. I set myself a target (550) and after the first two rounds had reached about half way. The conditions were not bad, but the wind always seems to have a say where we are and a couple of 5's could have been 7's. (To those who have no idea what I am going on about here search for GNAS rounds outdoor) So the final round 40 yards and needing to up my scoring. Without making a motion picture here down to the last 6 arrows and needing 43 to make my target (adds tension here) I hit a blue (5 points) drama! Of course as I approached the target had I reached my required score? As the Hitch-Hikers guide said - Stress and tension is bad - so to ease the reader (if there are any) of course I reached my target and passed it.

So what else I have been doing. Watched Night at the Museum 2. Not bad film, nice gentle comedy well put together a good family view. Looking forward to a few films Transformers for one, maybe Public enemy , 2012 and The Last Airbender (looks interesting).

Now a few spoilers here so if you have not seen Torchwood Don't Read On!!!

This last week has seen Torchwood: Children of Earth shown everyday. Brave, bold, different or sadly lacking in a few places? It just did not have that all round grab for me. Some bits I found made no sense. Why try and kill Capt Jack with a bomb inside him when sending it by parcel post would have been easier. The timing of the explosion was just right - why not wait and remotely blow him up? OK so these are plot designs or holes - you choose.

It sort of worked and sort of did not. The last episode worked, but if the Doctor had been there would he have allowed Jack's son to die? OK that's the difference you are all shouting (the one of you is at least). Torchwood has grit, is different, hits hard(ish) and has adult themes. To me this was more an adult version of Quatermass which may have fitted its aims.

Well hopefully there will be another series, at least a new set for Torchwood or will we find that lost base. Who knows.

The Ashes has started - cricket to those who dont know - and the first test is almost complete. It could be a long hard summer , very very hard.

Off to watch the F1 now and see if Button can get another win.

Enjoy

A Grand Life

I am sure famous people have sat where I am sitting now and done the same thing. Drink coffee, look at the sea and write. So here I am in The Grand hotel Brighton doing the same. But how many of the more famous would then have blogged it. And is blogging it a proper term.
Certainly these days people would and do blog but from The Grand hotel? I could almost picture them writing away as waiters passed. Indeed I feel surrounded by waiters rather than writers right now. The happy sounds of jazz sort of old style played by modern people echo around the place.
The only thing missing right now is a good old fashioned arm chair and a cloud of dense smoke. Well one I can live without.

So here I am sipping coffee writing, sort of and keeping an eye on the cricket, sort of. Its summer of course and for once its fine here. The cricket score comes via the iPhone so that's certainly out of character for the writers of the past. But I guess well in character for the likes of me. Blogging in the new age. Yet still sometimes I end up putting pen to paper and I mean a real pen, before re-typing into a blog or journal for anyone to read.

So what does that make me? Old new school, new old school or something else. One thing for certain, its not easy to write in this chair. Maybe they wrote at the bar, who knows. I wonder if its time to start another age or trend. Maybe now I could be a silicon blogger or is that too trendy.

Still for me, this is a small wander into what must of been a Grand life.

Blogging Outdoors

First time for everything and this is sort of a first, well for me here it is.
Blogging in the sunshine, yes sunshine, feeling the summer sun on my legs and the insects all trying to buzz me.
Darn annoying how they all want to look at my blog and the mac, well thats my view point anyway. The back garden is in need of some attention which its getting as I watch. If I do it then plants, weeds and anything comes under attack from me. All bar Bamboo. Odd that.

Thinking of the couple of weeks that have passed by, a lovely visit from friends, running around an adventure place, they never build them for adults you know, dragged a few times here and there but as always great fun.
Star Trek - seen for a second time and still good, maybe even better. Might go again. Wonder if I will ever make my mine up on the top 5 favourite film Trek scenes, Enterprise clears moorings Trek II, Battle in the Mutara Nebula Trek II, Insurrection (the lot cant fault it), then I am stuck. Oh well finish that later.
Now we have the Lions season. The British and Irish Lions to be correct - www.lionsrugby.com - rugby for those who dont know. The tour started with a win, just about after 60 minutes of so-so play the team started to gel. I had predicted a 12 point win and was a little nervous but pleased with the result 25 - 37 to the Lions - 12 point.
Ok well next match is Wednesday so I predict a 19 point win for the Lions. Boy I am being brave but the team should start to bond now.
Is an outside blog really for all of this. Who knows, but this is my one.

Time I guess to do something else. The bird in the tree is chirping like mad, the bees are getting ever closer and I am hungry.

An outside blog who would have guessed it.
